Ted Nelson, what new media could be, and why it isn’t

In this short video by the originator of the idea of hypertext, Ted Nelson, he explains how his original notion of hypertext has been dumbed down by implementations like Microsoft Word and PDF; basically they imitate paper, which other new media thinkers like Lev Manovich might characterize as a “mature cultural form.” He explains why this is stupid, why it ignores and negates the enormous potential of the computer as a tool for creative thinking, and how his Xanadu Space is a move toward a realization of the real potential of hypertext authoring space.
